Walbeck picks up 200th Whitecaps victory

BATTLE CREEK - Matt Walbeck became the second manager in Whitecaps history to earn 200 victories as West Michigan defeated Southwest Michigan, 5-2.

Walbeck is the second Whitecaps skipper to reach 200 regular season wins. Bruce Fields won 331 in four seasons, 1997-2000. Walbeck has been at the helm of the ‘Caps since 2004.

Burke Badenhop threw his second nine-inning complete game victory of the season for the Whitecaps. He allowed eight hits, no walks and struck out four to improve to 9-2.

West Michigan finishes their all time season series against the Battle Creek franchise with a 100-91 record. The Devil Rays will move to Midland, Michigan for the 2007 season.

Matt Joyce put the Whitecaps in front with a two-run single in the first inning.

West Michigan added three runs in the fourth inning to build a 5-1 lead.

Jake McGee lasted just 3.2 innings as the Southwest Michigan starter. He walked four batters and three of those runners scored.

Jeramy Laster and Will Rhymes each had RBI for the Whitecaps in the fourth inning.
