Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL -- The Peoria Chiefs topped the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-2 Friday night at O'Brien Field and starting pitcher Mitch Atkins had a lot to do with it. After the Rattlers scored 21 runs in the first two games of the series, Atkins allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five over six innings for his eighth win of the season.
Peoria (53-38 overall, 12-10 second half) broke a scoreless tie with three straight run scoring hits in the bottom of the third inning. An RBI double by Ryne Malone was followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Jesus Valdez and Ryan Norwood.
Wisconsin (33-59, 6-16) got their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Eddy Hernandez in the top of the fourth, but Peoria got that run back in the bottom of the fourth. Malone got his second RBI of the night on a fielder's choice to end the scoring in the game.
Matt Avery allowed a hit, but struck out the side in bottom of the ninth for his ninth save.
The Rattlers return home to face the Swing of the Quad Cities on Saturday night. Paul Fagan (4-10, 4.32ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Trey Hearne (7-2, 2.83ERA) is slated to start for the Swing. Game time at Fox Cities Stadium of 7:05pm.
