Kane County Cougars News Release
Beloit, WI - The Kane County Cougars lost both ends of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against the Beloit Snappers, falling 4-3 in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2. The first defeat made the Cougars 0-12 in one-run games this season.
Game 1 starter Scott Deal (1-3) allowed four runs on six hits in the loss, and reliever Derrick Gordon worked 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Eight different Cougars had a base hit, including Greg Dowling, who homered for the third time this year. His round-tripper made it 4-1, and a two-run, ninth-inning rally cut it to 4-3. The Cougars had runners at second and third when the game ended.
Trevor Cahill, the Oakland A's top draft pick last June, made his Cougars debut in Game 2 but left without getting through the first inning. He allowed three runs on three hits before reaching the organization's single-inning pitch limit. Inoel Deaza, activated from the disabled list before the game, pitched 5 1/3 innings of two-run relief to finish the contest. Christian Vitters, who'd doubled earlier, drove home the Cougars' first run with a fourth-inning triple and scored on Gustavo Rosendo's grounder to make it 5-2, and that became the final. Cahill (0-1) took the loss.
The Cougars (7-28), who went 2-9 on their 11-game road trip, start a six-game homestand Monday night at 6 CDT against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Craig Italiano is set to face the visitors' Chris Tillman in the opener of the two-game series.
