Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI -- The Peoria Chiefs scored all eight of their runs after two outs and held on to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 8-5 in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. Wellington Castillo was 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI for the Chief offense. Peoria starting pitcher Jake Renshaw moved his record to 3-0, but needed help to stop a desperate Wisconsin rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Wisconsin (9-24) scored first with Kuo Hui Lo delivering a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second.

Peoria (19-15) evened the game with an unearned run in the top of the third inning. A throwing error with two outs by shortstop Carlos Triunfel allowed Matt Camp to score from third base.

After the final out of the top of the third inning was recorded, there was a rain delay of 58 minutes. When play resumed, Renshaw returned to the mound. The Chief starter worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the third and a perfect bottom of the fourth. Then, the Peoria bats went to work.

They got hot with two outs in the top of the fifth inning as they strung together four straight two out RBI hits. Alfred Joseph was first with an RBI single. Russ Ganzler doubled to right and Joseph scored. Josh Lansford punched a single up the middle to drive in Ganzler. Then, Castillo doubled to left and Ganzler scored for a 5-1 Peoria lead.

Peoria scored three more two out runs in the top of the seventh inning. Lansford doubled off the left field wall to knock in a run. Then, Castillo homered to left and the Chiefs were up 8-1. It would turn out that they needed that insurance.

Renshaw started to run out of gas in the bottom of the seventh as he went for a complete game and the Rattlers made it interesting. The Peoria starter got the first out, but Leury Bonilla drew a walk. Carlos Peguero reached on an infield single and a throwing error on the play allowed Bonilla to score all the way from first. Kalian Sams followed with an infield single. Then, Alex Liddi doubled to drive in Peguero to make the score 8-3. Liddi was the last batter Renshaw faced, but the Rattlers weren't done.

Lo drove in Sams with a single off Peoria reliever Jayson Ruhlman to get the Rattlers to within 8-4. Juan Beltran was next and he knocked in Liddi with a sacrifice fly. But, the sac fly was also the second out. Then, the game ended in an odd manner. Ogui Diaz struck out, but the ball popped away from Castillo. Diaz headed for first and Castillo's throw was wild allowing Diaz to reach and appearing to bring the tying run to the plate. However, Lo was thrown out trying to get to third base on the off target throw to first.
