Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI -- Andy Hargrove hit a pair of home runs, including a game-ending shot in the eighth, to lead the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs in game two of a doubleheader Sunday on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Three Rattler pitchers combined to strikeout fourteen Chief batters in the game. Andrew Barb struck out a pair in one inning to pick up the win. The victory in game two earned the Rattlers a split in the double dip.
Carlos Triunfel put Wisconsin (10-24) in front in the bottom of the first inning. He tripled in the first run of the game. Carlos Peguero's RBI grounder let Triunfel score for a 2-0 advantage.
Hargrove's third home run of the season, a solo blast to left center, came in the bottom of the second inning and the Rattlers went up 3-0.
Peoria (19-16) rallied to get close in the top of the fourth. Yusuf Carter tripled to start the inning and scored on a ground out by Josh Lansford. Then, Russ Canzler homered to left center and the Chiefs were down 3-2.
Rattler starter Steve Richard struck out the lead off batter in the top of the fifth inning to set a career high for strikeouts with seven. But, then Matt Camp singled and took second base on a wild pitch. Jim Adduci followed with an RBI double to tie the game. Richard was relieved and Joe Kantakevich ended the inning with a pair of strikeouts. Kantakevich struck out five in 2-2/3 perfect innings of relief.
The game stayed tied until the bottom of the eighth inning. Danny Santin singled of Jeremy Papelbon with two outs to put the winning run aboard. Hargrove drove a 1-2 pitch from Papelbon over the wall in left center for the game winning home run.
The Rattlers hit the road Monday for a brief two game road trip to face the Kane County Cougars. Wisconsin sends Chris Tillman (1-2, 4.76) to the mound in game one. The Cougars have Craig Italiano (0-3, 15.07) as their scheduled starter. Game time at Elfstrom Stadium is 6:00pm.
