Kane County Cougars News Release
GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - A 3-1 advantage entering the bottom of the seventh inning disappeared for the Kane County Cougars on Monday night at Fox Cities Stadium as they ended up with a 4-3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Jose Rosario was cruising for the Cougars (32-45, 2-9) as he made his deepest outing of the season, lasting into the seventh inning for the first time. He retired the first two batters of the bottom of the seventh before walking Adam Giacalone on four straight pitches. Rosario's next delivery was clobbered by Parker Berberet for a two-run homer to tie the game at 3-3.
Justin Amlung (3-3) replaced Rosario in the eighth and allowed a free pass to Alfredo Rodriguez to start the frame. Orlando Arcia then grounded to second, but Gioskar Amaya's flip to second base slipped into left field, putting the go-ahead tallies in scoring position. Two batters later, Victor Roache's sac fly to left brought home Rodriguez, putting the Timber Rattlers (32-44, 3-8) on top.
Martin Viramontes (1-1) kept the Cougars off the board as he recorded the final six outs without a hitch, posting consecutive perfect frames. Viramontes came on after Eric Semmelhack worked the first seven innings for the Timber Rattlers.
Semmelhack coughed up three runs, just one earned with all of the damage coming in the first three times up for the Cougars. Marco Hernandez singled to start the second and advanced to second on a Willson Contreras while Contreras reached first on a throwing error by Semmelhack. Three batters later, Oliver Zapata ripped a triple to the wall in right-center, drawing home both baserunners. Hernandez added a two-out, run-scoring single in the third to bring Albert Almora across the dish, putting the Cougars up by a pair.
The Cougars and Timber Rattlers play the fourth of their five-game set on Tuesday afternoon with a 12:05 first pitch from Fox Cities Stadium. Right-hander Tayler Scott (4-2) starts for the Cougars against fellow righty Tyler Wagner (6-6). The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday, July 4, to take on the Quad Cities River Bandits at 6:30 p.m. For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
