
John Murphy assigned to Kernels Jeremias Pineda placed on 7-day DL

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF John Murphy has been assigned to the Kernels and that OF Jeremias Pineda has been placed on the 7-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Murphy in the 19th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Jacksonville University and he spent 2012 with the GCL Twins where he hit .216 with 2 HR and 22 RBI in 52 games. He has played in 37 games at Fort Myers this season, batting .248 with a HR and nine RBI.
Pineda has played in 24 games for the Kernels, batting .173 with a HR and five RBI. The Twins acquired Pineda in a trade with Boston during the 2012 season.
Murphy will be active and available for tonight's 6:35 pm game with the Peoria Chiefs. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players currently on the disabled list and one player on a MLB rehab assignment.
The Kernels wrap up a seven game home stand tonight against the Peoria Chiefs at 6:35 pm. Minnesota Twins RHP Mike Pelfrey will make a rehab start for the Kernels. It's also Dollar Monday where regular hot dogs, small popcorn, ice cream sandwiches, chips and Cracker Jack are each $1. Plus, get $1 soft and hard shell tacos at the Hacienda Las Glorias / La Cantina Mexican Cart.
