GENEVA, Ill. - Orlando Calixte singled twice and drove in three runs as the Kane County Cougars turned back the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-1 Saturday evening to crawl to within five games of .500. Coupled with Clinton's 6-4 win against Beloit, the Cougars now find themselves tied for sixth in the Western Division, the first time that they've been able to escape the seventh spot in over a month.

Cheslor Cuthbert gave the Cougars the early advantage when his first inning single scored Angel Franco, who had also hit safely to open the frame. After Lane Adams doubled to drive in Ryan Jenkins, Calixte recorded his first two RBI's with a sharply hit line drive to center. Both Adams and Cuthbert scored to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead. Cuthbert, Adams and Calixte would then ice the game one inning later when, after two were out, Cuthbert walked and scored on Adams' triple and Adams himself then scampered across the plate on an infield hit by Calixte. Adams finished the game with two RBI's and two runs scored while Cuthbert scored a pair of runs in addition to his first inning RBI.

Cougars pitcher Jason Adam worked six innings, allowing just three hits and one run to claim his second victory and give the Cougars pitching staff their 17th quality start in the last 28 games.

Game three of the series is slated for 6 PM on Sunday with RHP Sugar Ray Marimon opposing Rattlers' RHP Tyler Thornburg. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:45 PM on 1280, WBIG and on-line via KCCougars.com.
