Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, erasing what had been a 4-1 deficit as they defeated the Beloit Snappers 6-4 Saturday night at Alliant Energy Field. Mickey Wiswall singled home a pair in the inning and Jabari Blash plated the go-ahead runs with a two-out triple to right-center.

Left-hander Edlando Seco fell behind early in the first inning as Wang-Wei Lin doubled and Nate Roberts walked. Both came home on a two-out double by Daniel Ortiz that just held the left-field line. After Julio Morban tripled and scored on a one-out single by Kalian Sams to cut the deficit to 2-1, Seco allowed two more runs in the third inning as Michael Gonzalez homered to right and Lance Ray singled home Ortiz following his second double.

Seco (W, 1-0) got cleanly through the fourth and fifth innings and retired the first batter in the sixth. He finished with four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.1 innings, striking out six.

The LumberKings loaded the bases on Snappers' right-hander B.J. Hermsen in the fifth inning as Shaver Hansen reached on a fielding error by shortstop Daniel Santana, Carlos Ramirez walked and Anthony Phillips beat out a bunt single. After Morban's strikeout, Wiswall bounced a two-run single out of the reach of diving second-baseman Jamaal Hawkins to score Hansen and Ramirez.

Kalian Sams then tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left scoring Phillips. After Kevin Rivers singled to prolong the inning with two outs, Blash lined a ball to deep right-center that dropped out of the reach of a diving Lin. Wiswall and Rivers raced home for a 6-4 advantage.

Right-hander Jonathan Arias (H, 1) navigated past two walks and two hits, striking out two over 2.1 innings to hold the lead. Right-hander Tyler Burgoon (S, 6) walked one and struck out one over the final 1.1 innings for the save.

Blash (2-for-4), Sams (1-for-3) and Wiswall (1-for-4) all had two RBI apiece to lead the Kings to just their sixth home victory of the season (6-18 overall).

The Snappers, who ended a nine-game losing streak the previous night with a 10-1 win, were led by Ortiz's 2-for-4, two-RBI performance in the loss. Gonzales's homer was his seventh of the season and one of two hits on a 2-for-4 game.

The LumberKings (14-36) continue the four-game series with the Snappers (22-27) tomorrow afternoon at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM. Left-hander James Paxton (1-1, 2.22) gets the game three start for Clinton as he goes up against Beloit right-hander Adrian Salcedo (3-3, 3.66).
