
Cougars Split Pair in Clinton

CLINTON, Iowa - Runey Davis blasted a couple doubles to lift the Kane County Cougars to a 5-2 victory over the Clinton LumberKings in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday night at Ashford University Field, but the LumberKings rebounded in the nightcap with a 2-0 win.
Davis cracked a two-base hit in the top of the second in game one with two outs to bring home Michael Antonio and Dean Espy. Davis scored when Yowill Espinal singled him home to make it, 3-0. Robinson Yambati tossed 4.2 innings and coughed up just two unearned runs in the bottom of the third before being lifted for Cody Fassold (1-0). Fassold didn't allow a hit in his 2.1 innings as he finished the contest. Kane County (29-26) added two more tallies in the fifth as Orlando Calixte singled in Davis. TIm Ferguson came home on a sac fly from Lane Adams.
In the nightcap, Brett Shankin (1-2) and Angel Baez (1-1) traded zeroes. Baez allowed Clinton (19-35) to go up by a run in the first with an RBI single from Dan Paolini to score Jamal Austin, who reached on an error. Baez struck out eight as he pitched the Cougars' first complete game of the season. Shankin scattered seven hits while also going the distance.
