Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Beloit Snappers scored in each of the first five innings, got home runs by right fielder J.D. Williams and catcher Matt Koch, and cruised to an 11-5 road win in the deciding contest of a three-game series with the Quad Cities River Bandits in front of 4,971 fans at Modern Woodmen Park.

Williams led off the game with a double to left field and scored the first of three first-inning runs on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Adam Bryant. He added an RBI single for the lone Snappers run in the second. Williams then hit a three-run home run - his first of the season - to cap a four-run third inning, giving Beloit an 8-0 lead.

River Bandits left-hander Hector Hernandez was done after three innings, as he allowed seven hits and seven earned runs while matching his season high with five walks and striking out two batters.

Quad Cities (27-28) scored three times in the third with run-scoring singles by shortstop Matt Williams, designated hitter Colin Walsh and left fielder Anthony Garcia. Williams, Walsh, Garcia and catcher Juan Castillo each had two hits in the game for the River Bandits.

Against River Bandits right-handed reliever Willy Paulino, Beloit (33-22) got a run in the fourth when Castillo tried to pick off second baseman Eddie Rosario from third base, but the throw went into left field and allowed Rosario to score, making it 9-3.

The Snappers extended the lead to 11-3 with two more runs in the fifth on the home run by Koch, whose four home runs this season have all come against the River Bandits. He has a homer in each of Beloit's four victories over Quad Cities this season.

Walsh brought the River Bandits within 11-5 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. Walsh tied Beloit third baseman Miguel Sano for the Midwest League lead in home runs and surpassed Sano for the league RBI lead with his 41st, 42nd, and 43rd on Friday.

Beloit left-hander Jason Wheeler allowed seven hits and five earned runs with four walks and five strikeouts, but he improved to 7-1 and tied Burlington's Drew Granier for the league lead in wins.

Left-hander David Hurlbut started the sixth inning for Beloit and allowed just two hits in the final four innings. He struck out five batters and faced the minimum number of batters by getting a double play and an outfield assist behind him.

The River Bandits continue the home stand with the opener of a three-game series against the Burlington Bees at 7 p.m. Saturday night. Right-hander Tyrell Jenkins (1-2) is scheduled to face Bees right-hander Raul Alcantara (3-5).
