Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs, have announced that catcher Victor Caratini has been transferred to the Cougars from the Rome Braves in the Atlanta Braves organization, while catcher Will Remillard has been placed on the disabled list. The Cougars have also received pitcher Francisco Carrillo from Short-A Boise, while pitcher Tyler Skulina has moved off the Cougars' active roster and is expected to join Class-A Advanced Daytona's active roster. Today's roster moves maintain the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players as the Cougars open a three-game homestand against Quad Cities tonight. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

Caratini (2nd round, 2013) was selected by the Braves in the second round of the 2013 Draft (65th overall) and entered this season ranked by Baseball America as the eighth-best prospect in the Atlanta farm system. Baseball America named Caratini the best pure hitter in Atlanta's 2013 Draft class as well as its best power hitter.

Last year in his first pro season, Caratini was named rookie-level Danville's Player of the Year after hitting .290 (58-for-200) with 23 doubles, one homer, 25 RBI, a .415 on-base percentage, a .430 slugging percentage and an .845 OPS. He walked 19 times compared to 17 strikeouts last August in earning the club's player of the month honor.

Caratini has spent all of 2014 with Class-A Rome, where he was named a South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star. He hit .279 (90-for-323) with 18 doubles, four triples, five home runs and 42 RBI in 87 games with Rome this year.

Carrillo (Non-drafted free agent, 2012) has pitched in 14 games this season with Boise, going 1-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 1 save.

Skulina (4th round, 2013) becomes the tenth Cougars player to receive a promotion this season and the fifth player since July 15 to move upwards in the Cubs' system, joining Kyle Schwarber, Juan Paniagua, Jake Hannemann and Gerardo Concepcion. Skulina went 4-7 with a 3.21 ERA in 18 starts (89.2 IP) at Kane County this season. Skulina was part of a tandem no-hitter along with Nathan Dorris on May 17.
