Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Taylor Brennan gave the Timber Rattlers a big lead and Taylor Williams made sure the Peoria Chiefs couldn't get going on Friday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Brennan hit a grand slam in a five-run second inning and Williams struck out eleven over seven innings in Wisconsin's 5-1 victory over the Chiefs. The Rattlers have won four straight games.
The Rattlers (59-50 overall, 23-17 second half) scored all the runs they would need in the second inning. Rafael Neda reached on an error with one out. Omar Garcia walked. Then, Garcia beat out a force play at second on a slow chopper to third off the bat of Jose Pena. That loaded the bases for Steve Halcomb to face Peoria starter Luis Perdomo. Halcomb drew a walk on a 3-1 pitch to force in Neda for a 1-0 lead.
Brennan was next and he lined an 0-1 pitch from Perdomo over the wall in left for a grand slam and a 5-0 lead. The bases loaded homer was the second of the season for Brennan, who has tied Chris Snelling (2000), Michael Cox (2004), and Clint Coulter (2014) for the most grand slams in a season by a Timber Rattler.
Brennan's grand slam was also the fifth of the season by a Timber Rattler to set a franchise record for slams in a single season. Brennan is 6-for-13, 3 2Bs, 2HRs, 2BBs, 21 RBI with the bases loaded this season.
Williams allowed a leadoff double to Ronald Castillo in the second inning. That was it. The Wisconsin right-hander retired 21 of the 22 Peoria batters he faced - including the final eighteen in order - on Friday night. He didn't walk a batter and struck out eleven. The eleven strikeouts set a new single game high as a professional for Williams who is now 8-1 on the season.
The Chiefs (58-51, 21-19) got their lone run of the game in the top of the ninth against Wisconsin reliever Chad Thompson. Vaughn Bryan drew a walk and went to second on defensive indifference. CJ McElroy, Jr. blooped a single into left to put runners at the corners. Justin Ringo singled to right-center to knock in Bryan. Thompson got a strikeout for the second out, but walked Rowan Wick to load the bases and bring the tying run to the plate. Thompson got the final out of the game on a routine fly ball to center.
Game two of the series is Saturday night. Preston Gainey (3-6, 4.16) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Rob Kaminsky (5-2, 1.50) will make the start for the Chiefs. Game time is 6:35pm.
There has been a lot of excitement and talk about the Milwaukee Bucks this summer and they will be bringing that excitement to Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium for Milwaukee Bucks Night. Bango, the Milwaukee Bucks Dancers, and the Milwaukee Bucks Grand Dancers will at the ballpark to pump up the jam. Play Potawatomi Bingo Casino Baseball Bingo during the game and stick around for a slam dunk of a postgame fireworks display presented by FOX 11!
If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are many ways to catch the action. MyNEW32's Sports Showdown will have the television broadcast starting at 6:30pm. The radio broadcast is available on AM1280, WNAM and IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm. The game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.
