Dragons Announce Player of the Month Nominees for July

DAYTON, OHIO-The Dayton Dragons have announced their nominees for the team's Batter and Pitcher of the Month awards for July. Fans can go to www.daytondragons.com to vote for the players whom they who they feel are most deserving of the award based on the month.

Each month, three hitters and three pitchers will be selected as nominees based on their performances on the field. The winning players will be honored on Tuesday, August 5th during an inning break of the Dragons game. There will also be a Player of the Month luncheon on Wednesday, August 6th at Buffalo Wild Wings, 262 East Stroop Road in Kettering, at 12:00 noon. Fans may attend to ask questions to the winning players and receive autographs. The players will be available to the media for interviews.

Below are the nominees for July (statistics for July games only):

Hitter of the Month Nominees:

- Carlton Daal (shortstop): Batted .287 with four doubles, one triple, one home run, 6 runs batted in, 14 runs scored, with a slugging percentage of .391 and an on-base percentage of .319 in 22 games.

- Phillip Ervin (outfielder): Batted .253 with seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 17 runs batted in, 16 runs scored, with a slugging percentage of .404 and an on-base percentage of .325 in 27 games.

- Joe Hudson (catcher): Batted .231 with three doubles, one triple, one home run, six runs batted in, five runs scored, with a slugging percentage of .385 and an on-base percentage of .344 in 16 games.

Pitcher of the Month Nominees:

- Alejandro Chacin: Posted a record of 0-0 with nine saves and a 0.59 earned run average in 12 relief appearances. In 15.1 innings, allowed 11 hits with 6 walks and 24 strikeouts.

- Sal Romano: Posted a record of 3-1 with a 1.32 earned run average in five starts. In 27.1 innings, allowed 28 hits with 5 walks and 28 strikeouts.

- Nick Travieso: Posted a record of 4-1 with a 2.97 earned run average in six starts. In 33.1 innings, allowed 32 hits with 17 walks and 26 strikeouts.
