SPOKANE, WA- The Prince George Cougars (18-21-2-1) battled back to earn a point in their 3-2 overtime loss to the Spokane Chiefs (12-23-3-1) Tuesday, at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
Koehn Ziemmer and Riley Heidt scored in regulation for the Cougars. Tyler Brennan stopped 35 shots and was saddled with the overtime loss.
Prince George is now 1-2-1-0 through four games on their U.S. Division road trip. The Cougars face the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday in Kent, WA.
FIRST PERIOD
There was no scoring in the first period. Tyler Brennan was the Cougars' best player in the opening frame, as he stopped all 15 shots he faced. Spokane outshot the Cougars 15-7.
SECOND PERIOD
Bear Hughes opening the scoring for Spokane, eight-minutes into the second. The 20-year-old scored on a power-play at 8:08 to put the Chiefs ahead 1-0.
Koehn Ziemmer got credit for his 18th goal of the season 17:23 to tie it 1-1. Ziemmer was taken down on a breakaway and crashed into the net. The play initially called a penalty shot but it was then reviewed, and a goal was awarded to Ziemmer.
Chase Bertholet put Spokane back ahead with his goal at 19:33 that made it 2-1.
THIRD PERIOD
Riley Heidt tied the game 2-2 late in the third on a Cougars' power play. Ethan Samson fired the puck to the front of the net from the wall and Heidt alertly tipped the pass past Mason Beaupit at 14:57.
OVERTIME
The Chiefs were handed a power play in overtime. Reed Jacobson had his pass go off two Prince George sticks and in at 4:28. The was officially credited to Raegan Wiles.
NOTES
Hudson Thornton had a pair of assists Tuesday and extended his point streak (2g-4a) to five games. With his goal, Riley Heidt now has 12 points (3g-9a) in his last 10 games. The Cougars are now 1-2 in overtime this season. Fischer O'Brien is the latest Cougar to be sidelined due to injury, joining Cayden Glover, Jonny Hooker, and Aiden Reeves.
