Swift Current Broncos News Release

Swift Current, Sask. - The Swift Current Broncos (15-22-4-1) found themselves down 1-0 just 13 seconds into the game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes (16-18-2-1) on Wednesday night, and seemed to be a step behind for most of the game in a 5-2 loss.

Off a turnover following the opening faceoff, the Hurricanes worked the puck to the mid point for Joe Arntsen to take a wrist shot. The shot was redirected in front by Brayden Edwards, putting Lethbridge ahead 1-0 just 13 seconds after the puck dropped.

The Broncos would pull even exactly 13 minutes later. Connor Gabriel, playing in his first WHL game, gained the Hurricanes line and fired a low shot toward the net. Jared Picklyk made the save, but the rebound went back up the middle and Cole Nagy chipped it over Picklyk's glove, pulling the Broncos even.

The game didn't remain tied for long as Lethbridge took a 2-1 lead three minutes later. The Hurricanes got a 2-on-1 rush from the Broncos blue line in, and Yegor Klavdiev beat Isaac Poulter on the blocker side to restore the Hurricanes lead, a lead they took into the intermission.

The game remained 2-1 well into the second period until the Broncos got their second power play of the night, though it was the Hurricanes taking advantage. Justin Hall jumped on a loose puck in the Swift Current zone, firing a shot over Poulter's glove to put Lethbridge ahead 3-1 with a shorthanded goal.

Swift Current started the third period with a brief 35 second power play, but Lethbridge added to their lead shortly after it expired. Alex Thacker took a drop pass off the rush and put the Hurricanes ahead 4-1 just 49 seconds into the third.

Ty Nash then capitalized on a breakaway to put the Hurricanes up 5-1 just 4:08 into the third.

Grayson Burzynski scored in the final minute for the Broncos to pull the final score to 5-2. Lethbridge outshot the Broncos 35-23.

Swift Current now returns home and looks for a rebound performance against the red-hot Moose Jaw Warriors (23-16-3-1) who have won six in a row.
