Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - The Saskatoon Blades announced on Thursday the signing of 2005-born defenceman Tait Humphries to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement. The 16-year-old from Coquitlam, BC was selected by Saskatoon in the eighth round (165th overall) in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. Humphries is the seventh player from the 2020 Draft class to put pen to paper with the organization.
"Tait brings a professional approach and work ethic each day on and off the ice," said Blades director of scouting Dan Tencer. "He has steadily progressed over the last couple years because of that approach and he's become a well-rounded defender who plays the game with a lot of confidence."
Excelling on both ends of the ice with the Vancouver NE Chiefs U18 AAA program, the reliable defender has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 22 games this season. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound right-hand shot has also tacked on 16 penalty minutes with his West Coast squad. "In today's game, having defencemen who are mobile and can move the puck is critical and both of those areas are strengths for Tait," continued Tencer. "We are very pleased to welcome Tait and the entire Humphries Family to Saskatoon."
The Blades would like to welcome the Humphries Family into the organization and community, and look forward to helping Tait achieve his goals under the guidance of Brennan Sonne's coaching staff.
