Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

The Tigers travelled to Edmonton for a midweek matchup against the Oil Kings at Rogers Place. It was the fourth meeting of the season between the two clubs. The home team had won the previous three games but the Tigers were looking to buck that trend on Wednesday night.

There wasn't a lot of offence in the first period with the two teams only combining for 11 shots total. The Oil Kings were able to make the most out of one of the shots though as Kaiden Guhle scored his fifth while on the power play. He let a wrister go from the point that found its way through traffic to give Edmonton the early lead.

The Oil Kings started the second period putting the puck on net every chance they got with 25 total in the middle frame. Edmonton was able to score three quick goals within a span of 70 seconds early in the second. Jake Neighbour made it a 2-0 game when his pass ramped up off the goaltenders stick and hit the top of the net just crossing the line. Initially it wasn't called a goal but upon further review they awarded him with his ninth of the year. 39 seconds later, Jalen Luypen let a wrister go from the left circle that snuck under the goaltender's arm for his 17th. Dylan Guenther finished off the trio of goals when his cross ice pass deflected off a stick and found the back of the net to put the Oil Kings up 4-0. The Tigers would respond a few minutes later though with a lucky bounce of their own while on the power play. An Oil Kings player tried to clear the puck after Daniel Baker's point shot hit the back board. The puck went off his stick though and slid into the Oil Kings' open net to cut the lead three with half the game remaining.

The Tigers started the third off on a positive note. 3:36 into the period, Rhett Parsons skated in from the blue line and let a wrister go from the top of the left circle. The shot found the top corner glove side for his fourth of the season. Oren Shtrom and Noah Danielson found the scoresheet with the helpers. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Tigers would get. The Oil Kings responded with a quick power play goal. Dylan Guenter netted his second off the game when he finished off a nice passing play with a one timer from left faceoff dot. Edmonton would ice things late in the third with another power play marker to secure a 6-2 victory. Jake Neighbours put home his second of the game off a one time from the right faceoff dot that just caught the top corner blocker side.

Garin Bjorklund (6-18-2-0) got the start in net for the Tigers. He made 8 save on 12 shots in just over a period of play. Beckett Langkow (3-9-1-1) came on in relief and stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced.
