Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - After not scoring more than five runs in a game for 16 straight games, the Kane County Cougars have done it in consecutive games. Wednesday night the Cougars used homers from Yowill Espinal and Alex Llanos and another quality start from Leondy Perez to cruise past the Beloit Snappers, 8-2, at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars' victory snapped a five-series losing streak and gives the Cougars a chance to earn their first sweep of the year on Thursday.
The Cougars broke open the game with a six-run second inning against Manuel Soliman (0-1). Geulin Beltre drove in Julio Aparicio with a single, Lane Adams scored on a throwing error, Espinal nailed a three-run homer and Gerard Hall belted a run-scoring triple to make it 6-0. Then Llanos smashed a two-run homer in the fourth to give the Cougars an 8-0 advantage. They knocked out 11 hits, and four players had multiple hits.
Perez (1-4) delivered his third straight quality start and the team's eighth in the last 13 games. He gave up one run -- in the sixth -- on five hits, walked one and fanned seven in the victory, the first by a Cougars starter other than Sugar Ray Marimon since April 23. Matt Mitchell took over in the seventh and gave up one run in three innings to earn the save, the first by a Cougar since April 8.
