
Wisconsin scores three late in 4-1 win over Kernels

Appleton, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored three times in the 8th inning to down the Kernels 4-1 in Appleton on Tuesday night. With the game tied 1-1 in the 8th inning, the Rattlers scored three runs with two outs off of Kernels reliever Caleb Graham. With Nick Shaw at first base, Cody Hawn singled to put runners at the corners. Chris Dennis then drove home two with a triple to left center and give the Rattlers a 3-1 lead. The next batter Michael Walker singled to drive home Dennis, making the score 4-1.
Timber Rattler reliever Eric Marzec (1-0) picked up the win after going three innings and allowing no runs on one hit. He struck out five and walked one. Caleb Graham (1-1) took the loss after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits. He struck out two and walked none. Kernels designated hitter Ricky Alvarez gave the Kernels a 1-0 in the 2nd inning with a solo home run to left field off of Timber Rattlers starter Del Howell.
The Timber Rattlers evened the score with an unearned run off of Kernels starter A.J. Schugel in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Greg Hopkins reached second base on a two-base throwing error by Kernels third baseman Jesus Campos. Wisconsin's Franklin Romero's RBI single to center field scored Hopkins and tied the game 1-1. The Kernels starting pitcher A.J. Schugel went five innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits. He struck out four and walked none.
Manny Correa went 1.1 innings out of the bullpen. He allowed no runs on two hits while striking out one and walking one. Wisconsin starter Del Howell went six innings and allowed one run on five hits. He struck out none and walked one.
The Kernels continue the series in Wisconsin with the Timber Rattlers on Wednesday evening at 6:35 p.m. from Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
