May 11, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Donald Lutz belted two home runs and Daniel Tuttle fired six shutout innings to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 3-1 victory over the Lake County Captains before a crowd of 7,909 at Fifth Third Field on Wednesday. The Dragons have won 12 of their last 14 home games. Overall, they climbed back to the .500 mark at 17-17 on the year.

Tuttle allowed only two hits, both singles, over six innings to improve to 3-0. He walked one and struck out seven.

The Dragons took the lead in the second inning. Yorman Rodriguez walked and Lutz followed with a line drive home run over the left-center field fence to give Dayton a 2-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Lutz lined a home run down the right field line to make 3-0. The two home runs gave Lutz a team-leading seven on the season.

Lutz became the first Dragons player to hit two home runs in a game since July 8, 2010 when Mark Fleury belted two homers at Bowling Green.

Lake County scored a single run in the eighth inning against Dragons reliever Daniel Wolford to make it 3-1. Drew Hayes pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out two, to earn his third save.

The Dragons finished with seven hits. Lutz was 2 for 4 as the only player with more than one. David Vidal had a double in three at-bats to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Dayton (17-17) hosts Lake County (16-18) on Thursday at Fifth Third Field in the last game of the three-game series. Tanner Robles (2-3, 5.73) will pitch for the Dragons against Steven Wright (0-0, 2.75) of Lake County. The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Channels 23 and 372 on most area Time Warner Cable systems). Former Reds first baseman Todd Benzinger will provide color commentary.

Notes: The Dragons placed relief pitcher Blaine Howell on the seven-day disabled list with a strained groin. He is expected to return once he is eligible to be activated...Hayes has allowed only one hit and no runs over his last eight relief appearances covering nine and two-thirds innings. He has walked three and struck out 16 over that stretch...The game was played in one hour, 59 minutes, making it the quickest nine inning game for the Dragons since August 28, 2008 when the Dragons won at Lansing 2-0 on a complete game shutout by Enerio Del Rosario, who is now in the major leagues with the Houston Astros.
