Lansing Lugnuts News Release

MIDLAND, Mich. - Bobby Coyle's eighth inning RBI single drove in the go-ahead run for the Great Lakes Loons (21-13) as they forced the Lansing Lugnuts (20-13) out of first place in the Eastern Division on Wednesday night, winning a closely contested ballgame, 4-3.

Back to back triples from Blake Dean and Nick Akins along with Coyle's single off of Nuts reliever Scott Gracey (4-1) allowed Great Lakes to recapture the lead and ultimately, take the game.

Loons closer Shawn Tolleson grabbed his league leading ninth save, and locked down the win for reliever Logan Bawcom (3-0) in a wild top of the ninth inning. K.C. Hobson led off with a double to left field and was subbed out for pinch-runner Markus Brisker. Oliver Dominguez then tried to move Brisker over to third but popped up the attempted sacrifice bunt. Tolleson rushed in to make a diving catch and doubled up Brisker at second, killing any hope for Lansing.

Sean Nolin and Misaul Diaz pitched well for Lansing, combining to throw 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on six hits.

Loons starter Tim Sexton fanned seven in six innings of work but lost out on the win when Bawcom allowed two runs in the top of the seventh, giving the Nuts a 3-2 lead.

The Nuts and Loons play the rubber match tomorrow morning in Midland. Drew Hutchison (1-0, 3.60) will get the start for Lansing. Lefty Ryan Christenson (3-1, 3.77) goes for Great Lakes with the first pitch coming at 10:35 a.m.
