Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - Scott Mitchinson, Lance Sewell and Chad Kerfoot combined on a four-hit shutout Sunday afternoon, leading the Kane County Cougars to a 5-0 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 7,593 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have won five straight games, notched their first shutout since June 3 and are now 19-5 at home against Wisconsin since 2006.

Mitchinson pitched four innings of two-hit ball in his first since late June and continues to increase his pitch count each outing since coming off the disabled list. He hasn't allowed an earned run against Wisconsin in 20 2/3 innings. Sewell (5-5) ended up with the victory and also pitched four innings of two-hit ball while striking out a career-high seven. Then Chad Kerfoot pitched a stress-free ninth to finish off the Rattlers.

The Cougars' offense scored early and often through the first five innings. Larry Cobb had an RBI single off Edward Paredes (7-11) in the first, and Jake Smith drove in Adam Klein in the third to chase Paredes. Michael Richard's two-run double in the fourth made it 4-0, and Greg Dowling's sacrifice fly in the fifth accounted for the game's final run.

The Cougars (27-29), who haven't won six straight games since they began the season 10-0, continue their series with Wisconsin (18-38) Monday night at 6:30 CT. Tyson Ross (0-0, 3.52) will face Juan Ramirez (5-9, 4.36).
