Dayton, Ohio-Eduardo Perez hit two home runs to lead the Great Lakes Loons to a 9-8 victory over the Dayton Dragons on Sunday night. The Dragons largest crowd of the season, 9,384, attended the game at Fifth Third Field in Dayton.

The loss dropped the Dragons to 30-26 in the second half as their lead in the wildcard race was cut to three games over Fort Wayne with 14 games to play.

The Dragons collected 17 hits in the loss and despite trailing 9-4 entering the eighth inning, pulled to within one run and had the tying run on base when the game ended.

Michael McKennon enjoyed another huge night for the Dragons. McKennon homered for the third straight night and collected three hits in the game. Jake Kahaulelio enjoyed his first four-hit game with the Dragons.

Great Lakes jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the first three innings before the Dragons rallied for four runs in the fourth. McKennon's two-run home run, his ninth homer of the year, tied the game, and the Dragons took the lead when Kahaulelio stole home on the back end of a double steal.

But Great Lakes scored five times in the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Dragons starting pitcher Daniel Guerrero (1-5) allowed a hit and two walks in the inning and left the game with the score tied and two men on base. Tyler Rhoden came out of the bullpen and allowed a walk and then back-to-back two-run doubles as Great Lakes took an 8-4 lead. Perez drilled his second home run of the game off Rhoden in the seventh to make it 9-4.

The Dragons rallied for three runs in the eighth inning, keyed by a two-out, two-run single by Neftali Soto to make it 9-7 game.

In the ninth, Devin Mesoraco drilled a one-out home run, his eighth of the year, to pull the Dragons to within one. With two outs, Kahaulelio singled to center to put the tying run at first. But Justin Reed grounded out to second to end the game.

The Dragons and the Loons meet again at Fifth Third Field on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. Curtis Partch (4-9, 5.10) will start for the Dragons.
