Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, Ill. - Starting pitcher Tyler Skulina couldn't get through the third inning as the Clinton LumberKings struck early to pull off a 7-4 victory over the Kane County Cougars on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Skulina (0-2) surrendered a two-out solo home run to Dario Pizzano in the top of the first which put the LumberKings (63-63, 30-27) in front. In the bottom of the first, the Cougars (50-72, 20-36) came right back to tie the game at 1-1 with Gioskar Amaya doubling to leadoff and scoring on a Jeimer Candelario fielder's choice.

Clinton put up a four-spot in the third against Skulina. Brock Hebert walked to start the frame and came around to score on a base hit from D.J. Peterson. After Marcus Littlewood walked to load the bases, Taylor Ard chased Skulina from the contest with a three-run double to make it a 5-1 contest.

Rob Zastryzny replaced Skulina out of the bullpen and tossed the next 3.2 innings while coughing up a run on five hits. Gaby Guerrero's RBI single in the fifth drew Littlewood to the dish to put the LumberKings up by five.

Steven Ewing (1-0) worked five frames for the LumberKings and gave up three runs. Giuseppe Papaccio scored on a wild pitch from Ewing in the fifth while Jose Dore crossed the plate on a groundout off the bat of Reggie Golden. Each team added a run in the ninth inning. Peterson went deep for Clinton while Golden picked up an RBI single for the Cougars.

The Cougars remain at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark for the next three nights as they begin a series with the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday at 6:30. Right-hander James Pugliese (0-0) will start for the Cougars against fellow righty Dakota Bacus (9-5). For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
