Kane County Cougars News Release
Geneva, IL - The Kane County Cougars led the Beloit Snappers 8-0 on Monday night with one out in the ninth inning when Snappers outfielder Deacon Burns blooped single to right field off reliever Trent Peterson for the first Beloit base hit. Peterson gave up one more hit in that inning before ending the game and ensuring the victory for starter Joe Scott, who tossed seven no-hit innings.
Scott started the game by walking the first two batters, then retired the next 10 hitters consecutively. The Cougars offense produced a run in the fourth on Gregorio Petit's fielder's choice off Snappers starter Josh Hill and added a pair in the sixth on a homer by Ryan Ruiz against reliever Kevin Culpepper. Kane County exploded in the seventh for five more runs. Travis Buck cracked a run-scoring single, Nick Blasi drove in two with a single and David Castillo smacked a two-run double for the 8-0 score.
After a hit batsman and a walk in the fourth, Scott retired another 10 batters to finish his night. He walked three and fanned five. Peterson continued the no-hit bid with a perfect eighth and a strikeout to commence the ninth. After the singles ended the no-no, Peterson nabbed the Cougars' third shutout of the year with another strikeout. The Snappers were caught looking on all four of the lefty's punch outs. Scott (5-1) went seven innings for the first time this year, and Hill (4-7) suffered the loss for Beloit (30-28), who remains tied with the Cougars (30-28) for the wild card spot in the Western Division playoff race. Kane County's next game is Thursday night at 7 CDT at the Swing of the Quad Cities. Ryan Ford looks for his 13th win against right-hander Nick Webber. That game starts an eight-game road stretch for the Cougars.
