Kane County Cougars News Release
BURLINGTON, Iowa- The Cougars returned to winning fashion as they plated five unanswered runs late in the ballgame for an 8-3 win over the Burlington Bees on Monday evening. The Cougars (42-22, 87-46) are now just one win shy of tying the franchise record for wins in a season after defeating the Bees (27-36, 65-67).
Yasiel Balaguert provided a strong amount of offense for the Cougars on Monday as doubled in the first run of the ballgame and later connected on his first home run since returning from the disabled list. Jacob Rogers and Balaguert hit consecutive two-baggers as part of a two-run second frame.
The Bees and Cougars went back and forth with one run frames, as Burlington tied the game 3-3 in the sixth to deny Paul Blackburn of his tenth win of the season. The Cougars' offense surged as Burlington's starter Daniel Hurtado (2-3) stayed in the game for the seventh inning. That is when Balaguert smashed his seventh homer of the year and put the Cougars back on top. Jeffrey Baez continued in similar fashion for his sixth round tripper. It was the fourth time the Cougars went back-to-back this season. Rogers drove in a couple more runs an inning later with a bases loaded single as the Cougars polished the evening with a three run eighth frame.
James Pugliese (4-0) suffered a blown save but picked up the win with one inning of work. Jasvir Rakkar earned a hold as he stretched his scoreless innings streak to 17 straight frames. Francisco Carrillo finished off a perfect ninth.
The Cougars will look to take the rubber game from the Bees with Duane Underwood (5-4, 2.55) on the mound against Burlington's Alex Blackford (1-3, 2.51). First pitch from Community Field is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard on AM 1280 WBIG and kccougars.com.
