Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, S.C. - Kole Cottam led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a runner placed on second base and obliterated a first pitch fastball to center field for an RBI ground-rule double for the walk-off 3-2 win over Greensboro Friday night at Fluor Field.
This is the Drive's fourth walk-off win of the year. New Drive infielder Jake MacKenzie scored the winning run after pitch-running at second base.
For the night, Greenville compiled four hits and two doubles. Cottam, Cole Brannen and Christian Koss tallied an RBI each. Koss and Cottam both went 1-for-4 with a run driven in. Cam Cannon had the only multi-hit performance of the night with a walk.
Cody Scroggins picked up the win after pitching a scoreless 10th inning.
Chase Shugart started and pitched 5.0 effective innings and allowed just one run on two hits and two walks. He fanned six.
Oliver Garcia was charged with the loss. He relented the unearned run in the bottom of the 10th.
Greensboro hopped on the scoreboard early in the first inning on a Jared Triolo sac fly to take a 1-0 lead.
The Drive then took the lead in the third inning. Dalton led off with a walk. Jaxx Groshans followed and got on by a fielder's choice, throwing error. That put runners on second and third. Brannen plated the first run of the game on an RBI groundout to first base. That brought up Koss who gave Greenville the lead, 2-1, on an RBI single up the middle.
However, the Grasshoppers tied the game, 2-2, in the seventh inning on a Blake Sabol solo homer.
Greensboro failed to score in the top of the 10th inning after Brandon Howlett turned a 5-3 doubleplay.
Cottam then ended the game on his RBI ground-rule double.
Game five is scheduled for 7:05 pm Saturday at Fluor Field. The Drive are slated to throw Yusniel Padron-Artiles while the Grasshoppers are set to start JC Flowers.
