San Antonio Missions News Release
Corpus Christi connected on three homers Wednesday afternoon at Wolff Stadium to earn a series-clinching, 5-2 win over San Antonio. The victory was the Hooks' ninth in a row, one shy of the franchise record set in both 2006 and 2007.
Bryan Rodriguez took the hill Wednesday afternoon in his seventh 2016 start for the Missions. The right-hander had pitched well in defeat when he faced the Hooks on May 7 at Whataburger Field, allowing just two runs on three hits in seven strong innings. His one mistake that day was a two-run homer off the bat of Houston catcher Evan Gattis.
Early Wednesday, Rodriguez fell victim once again to the long ball as James Ramsay gave Corpus Christi a quick lead in the top of the first with a two-run shot to right.
San Antonio utilized the home run themselves to get the ballgame tied, beginning in the second with Chase Jensen's solo shot onto the berm in left off right-hander Cy Sneed. An inning later, the Missions tied the game at two when shortstop Jose Rondon connected on an opposite-field shot to right. It was the second homer of the year for both players.
Rodriguez (2-3) put up zeroes from the second through the fourth, but allowed another dinger in the fifth as J.D. Davis put the Hooks back up 3-2 with a blast to right.
Alex Bregman put the game on ice for Corpus Christi in the seventh with a two-run shot to right off lefty Brandon Alger. All of the runs scored in Wednesday's contest came via the home run.
Sneed (2-1) earned the win for the Hooks after striking out seven against no walks over five innings. Evan Grills took care of the final four innings to notch his first save of the season.
San Antonio (12-26) wraps up its four-game series with Corpus Christi (23-15) Thursday on Cricket Dollar Night presented by News 4 San Antonio and Cox Media Group. First pitch is schedule for 7:05 PM. Michael Kelly (1-0, 3.60) will take the hill for the Missions in his second start at the Double-A level. The Hooks look for a franchise record 10th straight win with fellow righty Keegan Yuhl (2-1, 3.31).
