Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The Hooks belted three home runs and Evan Grills blanked the Missions over the final four frames Wednesday as Corpus Christi rolled to a 5-2 triumph at Wolff Stadium.
The Hooks (23-15) have won nine in a row and 14 of their last 17. The club record for consecutive wins is 10, last achieved May 20-31, 2007.
Cy Sneed earned the victory Wednesday, scattering four hits over five innings of work. Sneed (2-1) struck out seven and did not issue a walk. San Antonio's (12-26) runs came on solo shots by Chase Jensen and Jose Rondon in the first and third, respectively.
James Ramsay began the long-ball trend with a two-run blast in the first off Bryan Rodriguez (2-3).
J.D. Davis added a solo poke with two away in the fifth and Alex Bregman iced the game in the seventh by belting a two-run blast to right field off lefty Brandon Alger.
Bregman now has as many home runs as strikeouts, nine.
Corpus Christi ranks second in Minor League Baseball with 48 home runs, one off the pace of High Desert, Texas' California League affiliate.
Grills entered in the sixth and stymied San Antonio to the tune of three singles for the save. The reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week has not allowed a run in his first 11 Double-A innings.
Hooks pitchers have surrendered eight runs in the last six games.
Corpus Christi aims for its second consecutive sweep Thursday night with Keegan Yuhl (2-1, 3.31) on the hill. The Missions turn to Michael Kelly (1-0, 3.60). First pitch 7:05.
