Springdale, AR - The Arkansas Travelers defeated the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Arvest Ballpark.
RHP Tyler Carpenter (W, 1-2) earned his first Double-A victory with five innings of work. The righty allowed the run on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Four Travs relievers combined for four shutout innings of work behind Carpenter.
RHP Austin Adams worked a perfect sixth, LHP Tyler DeLoach retired all five batters he faced, RHP Geoff Broussard faced one batter in the eighth and induced a pop-out, and RHP DJ Johnson (S, 3) notched the save in the ninth.
Arkansas scored its runs in the third and fifth. The Travs were the beneficiary of two errors in the third and plated an unearned run, and scored on a RF Cal Towey RBI groundout in the fifth.
Towey finished 2-for-4, his fourth multi-hit game over his last five.
Naturals starter LHP Matt Strahm (L, 2-3) worked 6.2 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits with three walks and four strikeout.
LHP Eric Stout pitched the final 2.1 innings against the Travs and did not allow a run.
Kansas City Royals infielder Mike Moustakas made a rehab appearance for Northwest Arkansas and finished 2-for-4 with the lone RBI.
With the win, Arkansas has now won back-to-back games and improved to 15-24 this season. The two teams will conclude the series on Thursday night at Arvest Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
