Springdale, AR - Jordan Kipper threw a complete game nine-inning no-hitter and faced the minimum in the Arkansas Travelers 6-0 win over the Northwest Arkansas Naturals on Tuesday night at Arvest Ballpark.
After issuing a leadoff walk to SS Ramon Torres in the first, Kipper induced an inning-ending double play and went on to retire each of the next 26 batters in order after the walk, including eight strikeouts.
The complete game nine-inning no-hitter for was the first for Arkansas since RHP Ryan Brasier vs. Tulsa on April 29, 2010 at Dickey-Stephens Park.
Kipper threw 108 pitches, 70 of which were strikes, in the win.
Arkansas catcher Jose Briceno was making his Travelers debut on Tuesday after a promotion from Advanced-A Inland Empire. Briceno was traded from the Atlanta Braves with SS Andrelton Simmons for INF Erick Aybar, and former Travs LHP Sean Newcomb and RHP Chris Ellis on November 12, 2015.
Kipper said after Tuesday's game that the only time the two had worked together was once during spring training.
Tuesday night was the first time Northwest Arkansas had a no-hitter thrown against them.
In addition to the eight strikeouts, Kipper induced 12 groundouts with six fly balls. Travs CF Bo Way and 1B Eric Aguilera did not have a single ball hit to them.
RF Cal Towey finished 3-for-5 with a run scored, his third three-hit game in his last four played.
Way went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
The win snapped a five-game losing streak for Arkansas. The Travs and Naturals will play game three-of the four-game series on Wednesday morning with first pitch scheduled for 11:05 a.m.
