CornBelters Win 6th Straight, Sweep Aviators in 13 Innings

Rockford, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, batted around in the fourth extra frame and swept the season series with the Rockford Aviators in a 9-4 13-inning win on Sunday night at Aviators Stadium.

The Aviators scored first in the third inning with a lead-off double by Elijah Trail and a two-out RBI single by Edgar Corcino.

The CornBelters grabbed the lead in the sixth inning by drawing three lead-off walks and scoring them all on a double by Aaron Dudley and a single by Ozney Guillen for a 3-1 lead.

Rockford cut the margin to 3-2 in their sixth frame when a lead-off walk to Corcino scored all the way from first on a one-out double that rattled into the left field corner by Dusty Robinson. Ryan Breen knocked home Robinson with a single to left center to even the game at 3-3 going to the seventh inning.

The Belters quickly regained the lead in the seventh as Pat McKenna singled with one out and scored on a triple that got past Corcino in left field to put the guests ahead 4-3.

The Aviators evened the game while down to their last strike when Corcino delivered an RBI single to force extra innings. The hosts loaded the bases in the 11th but grounded into a double play to send the game to another extra frame. The Belters put their first two aboard in the 10th and 12th innings but did not advance runners either time.

The CornBelters finally broke through in the 13th with a lead-off home run to left field by McKenna, followed by a single by Chirino, a Mike Schwartz double and RBI singles by Sam Judah and Dudley, who scored on a wild pitch and a McKenna single for the final tallies.

Jason Postill (6-2) picked up the win while Michael Ormseth took the loss in his Aviators debut.

The Belters take Monday off as they host the final coaches show of the season at the Tavern at Parke Regency Hotel from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Monday. Fans are encouraged to attend or listen through the regular broadcast link. The Belters begin a nine-game home stand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against the Schaumburg Boomers on Michael Collins Tribute Night. Details are at www.normalbaseball.com .
