Boomers Defeat Grizzlies in Series Finale

SAUGET, Ill. - The Gateway Grizzlies fell to the Schaumburg Boomers 18-7 Sunday night at GCS Ballpark.

Schaumburg (48-33) hit seven home runs in the game, including three from shortstop Gerard Hall and two from third baseman Joe De Pinto.

The score was tight early with both the Boomers and the Grizzlies (46-35) scoring single runs in the second inning. Hall hit his first home run of the game and Josh Adams drove in a run for Gateway on a single.

Schaumburg scored two unearned runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth inning on a De Pinto two-run home run and a solo blast from Hall to make the score 6-1.

Michael Wing drove in a run for the Grizzlies in the fourth inning to make the score 6-2, but Schaumburg scored five in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to take a 13-2 lead.

A four-run outburst in the sixth inning brought the Grizzlies within six runs. Wing hit a two-run home run, Adams brought in a run on a triple and TJ Bennett picked up a sacrifice fly.

Schaumburg scored two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to finish off the scoring.

The Grizzlies begin a six-game road trip Tuesday night at Lake Erie. Newcomer Daniel Cropper will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:05 central time.
