Normal CornBelters News Release
Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, clinched their first series victory of the season with a 5-1 victory over the Evansville Otters Tuesday evening at the Corn Crib. 'Belter starter Daniel Britt (2-2) registered his second win of the season, surrendering only one run on four hits over six innings pitched.
Nick Schwaner put Evansville out in front early with a solo blast in the 2nd. The Otters lead would prove to be short lived as Normal came roaring back in the bottom of the frame.
Back to back singles by designated hitter Jordan Stouffer and first baseman Jovan Rosa, followed by a walk to third baseman Chico Gomez loaded the bases. The next batter, catcher Trace Voshell, drew a walk bringing in the first Normal run and tying the score at one run apiece. That set the table for centerfielder Alvaro Ramirez who doubled to deep center field driving in two more CornBelter runs.
Normal would add another tally in the bottom of the seventh when Gomez doubled to center and later scored on a wild pitch. Rosa provided the final run for the hosts by belting his first homerun of the season, a solo shot, over the wall in left, stretching the lead to 5-1.
Evansville did not go quietly, adding two runs off of CornBelter closer Marshall Schuler in the 9th, before finally running out of steam.
The series will wrap up Wednesday evening at the Corn Crib with a 6:30 start time. Normal will send RHP Tyler Lavigne (1-1, 3.57 ERA) to the hill to face Evansville's RHP Bryce Morrow (2-2, 6.05). Pregame on WJBC.com at 6:20.
