(Joliet, IL)- The Slammers kept the Boomers scoreless in Joliet Tuesday night in an 8-0 victory on "Superhero Night" at Silver Cross Field.

In his first game as a Slammer, Wander Alvino was indeed the hero for Joliet, throwing five innings of scoreless baseball, and allowing just one hit in that time. Chase Doremus, Brian Smith, and Amalio Diaz followed suit.

Joliet dominated at the plate, as well. After two and a half scoreless frames, Jimmy Waters led off with a single, took second base on a wild pitch, reached third on a Ben Hewett groundout, and scored on yet another wild pitch from Schaumburg starter Tyler Watkins. They picked up an insurance run two innings later on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right field from Abel Nieves to make it 2-0.

The Slammers piled on with another pair in the sixth when David Fox scored all the way from first on one of four fielding errors by the Boomers. Sean Estand singled later to bring home Hector Pellot from third, and make it 4-0.

Joliet piled on in the eighth with another four runs. Jimmy Waters walked, stole second, reached third on a wild pitch, and took home on an error. Hewett reached on a walk and scored on another wild pitch. RBIs came courtesy of extra-base hits from Fox and Nieves.

With the first series between the Boomers and Slammers tied at one, Joliet looks to win the first installment of the new rivalry Wednesday at 7:05pm. Fans can listen live on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action, online at www.wjol.com.
