CornBelters Rebound for Victory at Joliet

Normal, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave the Joliet Slammers their first loss at home in five games with a 5-0 victory on Saturday night at Silver Cross Field.

The CornBelters used a two-out rally in the third inning to open the scoring capped by a three-run homer by Mike Schwartz well over the right field wall.

Normal added a pair of runs in the sixth when Aaron Dudley led off with a double to right, went to third on a base hit up the middle by Sam Judah and scored on a fielder's choice ground ball by Richard Lucas, followed by a Brian Bistagne single up the middle to score Judah for a 5-0 lead.

Corey MacDonald (1-0) picked up the win with six innings of work, giving up four hits and three walks while striking out seven. Joliet starter Matt Dillon (0-1) took the loss with six innings as well, surrendering five runs on six hits with five walks and no strikeouts.

The series concludes with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch in downtown Joliet as Belters right-hander Drew Provence (1-1, 3.60 ERA) starts on the mound against Slammers lefty Jake Hermsen (0-0, 1.92 ERA). The Belters take Monday off before hosting Evansville in a three-game series on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7:00 each evening.
