Normal CornBelters News Release
NORMAL, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by the Illinois Corn Farmers, found themselves on the losing end of an extra inning game, dropping a 5-4 decision to the Traverse City Beach Bums Saturday night at the Corn Crib. The loss comes a night after an extra inning win, and was the fourth consecutive extra inning game Traverse City has played in.
The CornBelters fell behind early 2-0 before tying the game up in the fourth, and then taking the lead in the fifth. The Normal lead was short lived however when Beach Bums' left fielder J.T. Hall hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the sixth to tie the game at 4-4. The game stayed tied until the top of the tenth when Hall struck again, with his second solo home run of the game to plate the decisive run. Hall finished the night 2-5.
Normal starter Kevin Kreier lasted 5 2/3 innings giving up seven hits and four runs, while striking out three. Normal reliever Greg Lane took the loss for Normal his first of the year. Normal's offense was led by right fielder Asif Shah who went 3-4 with three singles and an RBI. Left fielder Steve Bralver knocked in two RBIs of his own.
The two teams meet for the rubber match of the series and the final game of the first half of the season before the All-Star break on Sunday at 5pm at the Corn Crib.
