
Grizzlies Win Fifth in a Row

CRESTWOOD, Ill.- John Flanagan pitched eight innings, everyone in the starting lineup had at least a hit, and the Gateway Grizzlies won their fifth consecutive game Saturday night, defeating the Windy City Thunderbolts 6-1 at Standard Bank Stadium.
The Grizzlies improved to 26-22 and remain one-half game behind River City for second place in the West Division.
The Grizzlies got on the board early Saturday, scoring a run on three hits in the first inning. Charlie Lisk singled to drive in the run.
Windy City (22-24) scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning on three hits against Flanagan. Flanagan settled in to toss eight innings, allowing just six hits. He struck out five, and improved to 5-2 with the win. Richard Barrett pitched the ninth to close out the game.
The Grizzlies took a 3-1 lead in the third thanks to RBI hits by Logan Parker and Breck Draper. Matt Miraldi made it 5-1 Gateway in the fifth with a two-run double. The RBIs were his first as a professional. Jason Patton singed in the sixth inning to drive in the final run of the night, and assure that all nine players in the starting lineup had at least a hit.
Draper led the way going 3 for 4 with the RBI and a run. Eric Blackwell, who started as the DH, was 2 for 4. Tyler Heil was 2 for 5. Patton, Lisk and Parker were each 1 for 4 with an RBI. Miraldi was 1 for 4 with the two RBIs.
The Grizzlies will go for their second consecutive series sweep Sunday evening when they meet the Thunderbolts in the series finale. First pitch is set for 6:05 pm in Crestwood.
