GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats picked up their seventh consecutive win and handed Kansas City its third consecutive loss, beating the T-Bones 4-0 on Wednesday night.
Gary SouthShore starting pitcher Morgan Coombs (3-0) threw a dominating complete game, in which he allowed only three hits (seven total baserunners) and kept Kansas City's offense off balance all night.
The RailCats scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when Danny Pulfer drove in Drew Martinez, who scored from second after leading off the inning with a single. Gary SouthShore scored two more in the third on Craig Maddux's third homerun of the season, pushing Gary's lead to 3-0.
The RailCats added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning off a wild pitch from Kansas City reliever Jose Jimenez.
Kansas City starter Eric Gonzalez (1-3) went just 4 2/3 innings and allowed 11 baserunners and three earned runs.
The T-Bones (15-24) will try to salvage the four-game series on Thursday night at 7:10.
