RailCats Sweep T-Bones

GARY, Ind. - Alain Quijano delivered a quality outing on the mound and Ryan Babineau was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI at the plate to propel the RailCats to a 4-3 win and a four-game sweep of Kansas City on Thursday night. Gary (24-15) has won eight in a row and is a game and a half back of first-place Wichita in the Central Division.

For the third time in the series, the RailCats scored the game¡¯s first run. In the bottom of the first Adam Klein and Mike Massaro led off the inning with back-to-back singles. After Cristian Guerrero struck out, Ryan Babineau rolled a base hit through the middle to score Klein from second.

Brian Kolb followed with a double to score Massaro to make it 2-0. The inning ended on Kolb¡¯s double as Ryan Babineau was thrown out trying to score from first base.

In the third, the ¡®Cats added to the lead. Zac Mitchell bunted for a single with one out, stole second and scored on Danny Pulfer¡¯s base hit to right-center to give the home team a 3-0 lead.

The ¡®Cats added on in the sixth inning as Cristian Guerrero led off with a double to deep right-center. Babineau lined a single down the right field line for his second hit and RBI of the game, making it 4-0.

Kansas City finally broke through against Alain Quijano in the top of the seventh. With one out, Ray Sadler reached on an infield single and Kody Hightower reached on an error by the third baseman Brian Kolb. Steve Yoo then knocked a base hit past Christian Vitters at first scoring Sadler. Vitters¡¯ throw went wild allowing Hightower to score.

Boomer Potts relieved Quijano and allowed an RBI single with two out to Kennard Jones to make it 4-3 RailCats. With a runner on first, Kyle Lindquist relieved Potts and got Devin Goodwin to pop out to end the inning.

Quijano (6-2) turned in his second consecutive quality start; firing 6 ¨÷ innings and allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks. Alain struck out four and threw 101 pitches.

The RailCats threatened to add insurance in the eighth inning, as Guerrero singled and Babineau singled with nobody out. However, T-Bones reliever Sean Toler escaped the jam to keep it a one-run game.

Ian Durham came on in the ninth seeking the save and gave up a leadoff single to Sadler. With two out, Sadler stole second to put the tying run in scoring position. Durham got Felix Molina to fly out to left to end the game and earn his second save.

Every RailCats starter except for Christian Vitters and Drew Martinez recorded a hit in the game.
