Laredo Lemurs News Release

Wichita, KS - Laredo rallied in the late innings before falling to league-leading Wichita 5-3 Sunday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Wingnuts (26-14) pounced on the Lemurs early, scoring twice in the second inning on a two-run home run from center fielder Brent Clevlen that also scored first baseman C.J. Ziegler. Wichita made it 3-0 in the third after Clevlen posted his third RBI of the night with a sacrifice fly that drove in short stop Abel Nieves from third.

The Lemurs (22-17) closed the gap in the seventh inning when second baseman Garrett Rau led off with a single and later scored on a two-out double by third baseman John Allen. After a scoreless bottom of the seventh, Laredo forged a tie in the eighth. Right fielder Jon Gaston singled and then scored on a two-run home run from catcher Brian Peterson to tie the game at 3-3. It was Peterson's second round-tripper of the season. The Lemurs rally was short-lived, however, as Wichita moved in front for good in the bottom of the eighth on a two-out, two-run home run by third baseman Colt Loehrs. The difference-making homer also plated Ziegler, who had walked to lead off the inning.

Lemur relief pitcher Mike Benacka suffered the loss. Benacka (0-1) pitched one inning and allowed two runs on one hit with one walk. He struck out the side in the eighth but gave up the eventual game-winning home run. Laredo starter Fabian Williamson worked five and two-thirds and allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits including a home run. He walked five and struck out two. Wichita reliever Daniel Bennett posted the win. Bennett (1-2) pitched one inning and allowed two runs (all earned) on three hits with one strikeout. Josh Dew pitched the ninth and allowed a hit and a walk before picking up his seventh save of the season. The Lemurs left eleven runners on base as the Wingnuts finished off a three-game sweep.

Laredo went 1-5 on its road trip to the Sunflower State, with the victory coming against Kansas City. The Lemurs next home series starts Friday, June 28th against the Amarillo Sox. For ticket information, visit .
