Conine Hits MILB-Leading 18th Home Run In Loss To Cubs

SOUTH BEND, IN - Griffin Conine now sits alone at the top of the MILB home run charts at 18 following Tuesday's game with the Cubs. A high fastball crushed into the right-center field seats at Four Winds Field. But it wasn't enough. The Beloit Snappers (26-29) lost a two-run lead in the final two innings to fall 7-6 to the South Bend Cubs (23-31) in Tuesday's series opener.

The Cubs notched the first runs with a pair in the first inning to go up 2-0. Beloit's third baseman Bubba Hollins countered with a second-inning home run to make it 2-1, Cubs. South Bend added another run to take a 3-1 lead.

The Snappers scored in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Connor Scott. Conine launched his MiLB-leading 18th home run and gave Beloit a 4-3 lead. South Bend tied the game, but Beloit scored two in the seventh to lead 6-4.

South Bend scored three runs over the last two innings and won on a walk-off single by Grayson Byrd to win 7-6.

Beloit's Top Performers: Conine hit his 18th home run of the season and sixth in his last eight games. Hollins homered and reached base three times.

The Snappers face South Bend Cubs again on Wednesday. Beloit is back at Pohlman Field for the final time on July 13-18th against the Quad Cities River Bandits before moving into ABC Supply Stadium downtown beginning August 3.
