
Condors trump Thunder on St. Hatricks Day, 8-5

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors beat the Stockton Thunder, 8-5, in front of 4,042 fans at Rabobank Arena on Monday night. LW Mark Derlago, LW Brett Lutes and C Steve Slonina each scored two goals, coming up just short of a hat trick on St. Hatricks Day at The Nest. 2008-3-17 Reinhardt The Condors (20-35-9, 49pts) dominated the opening frame, but the first period ended in a 1-1 tie. They touched up the Thunder (25-34-3, 53pts) for 26 first period shots, a Thunder record for shots allowed in a single period. Lutes ripped home his 20th of the season to give Bakersfield a 1-0 lead at 14:52. Stockton had two power plays in the period and lit the lamp on their second to tie it up with a goal by D Brian Lee.
The goal judges were busy in the second, with the two clubs combining for seven tallies. Stockton made it 2-1 with a power-play tally at 4:23, but Bakersfield reeled off four straight. C Tim Konsorada tied it up at 6:18 and Slonina scored at 10:37 to give the Condors a 3-2 lead. Derlago then extended the lead by scoring twice in the span of 10 seconds to make it 5-2. The Thunder countered with two late goals by RW Tyler Hirsch to make it a one goal game after two periods.
Bakersfield extended the lead in the third period. Lutes, with his second of the game, and rookie F Dale Reinhardt scored just 1:02 apart to make it 7-4. A Stockton tally at 17:15 made it a two-goal game, but Slonina iced it with his second of the evening into the empty net to account for the 8-5 final score.

Notes from The Nest: F Dale Reinhardt made his professional debut tonight for the Condors, scoring his first professional goal and adding four shots... LW Brett Lutes reached the 20-goal plateau for the third consecutive season tonight... D Martin Frechette (3a) has eight assists in seven games since being acquired at the trade deadline. He recorded his third multiple-point game for the Condors tonight and finished +3.

Upcoming Games: The Condors take the road to Fresno for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday. Both games will start at 7:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KGEO AM 1230, www.bakersfieldcondors.com and B2 Networks.
Bakersfield returns home on Monday, March 24 for NASCAR Night. Fans wearing a NASCAR shirt or jacket will receive $1 terrace admission. In addition, one of Jeff Gordon's actual race cars will be on hand and is equipped as a virtual reality simulator, so fans can take their turn driving like the pros.
Monday will also be a CW Bakersfield and 106.1 KRAB Radio High School/College ID Night. All high school and college students receive admission for $1.00 by presenting their student ID at the Rabobank Arena Box Office.
The first 2,000 fans on Monday will also receive the fourth magnet, featuring Kevin Truelson, of the five-piece March Monday Madness Magnet Collectors Series. A new magnet is handed out at each March Monday Madness game.
Individual game tickets are now on sale and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena Box Office, which is open from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday with extended hours on game days. Tickets may also be purchased by phone at 322-2525, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, or at any Ticketmaster location.
