Devils' Smith Named RBK Hockey ECHL Goaltender Of The Week

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils, in conjunction with the ECHL, are announcing today that Devils rookie netminder Jason Smith is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 10-16.

The 22 year old started the week by posting back-to-back shutouts on Mar. 13 (6-0 win at Cincinnati) and 14 (2-0 win at Dayton) and had a scoreless streak of 187:26. The 6-foot-1 and 195-pound Smith then stopped 26 shots in a 4-1 win at Dayton on Mar. 15 to end the week 3-0-0 with a 0.33 goals-against average and a .989 save percentage to help the Devils move nine points out of the fifth and final playoff spot in the North Division.

Selected in the sixth round (197th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and under contract to the Lowell Devils of the American Hockey League, Smith is 10-15-3 with a 3.29 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage in 29 games for Trenton this season.

The St. Lambert, Quebec native played four seasons at Sacred Heart University where he was 38-29-4 with two shutouts, a 2.74 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 71 games.

The Trenton Devils return to Sovereign Bank Arena to begin a two-game homestand with a contest against the Wheeling Nailers on Thursday, March 20th at 7:00pm.
