Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - Yutaka Fukufuji stopped 42 shots for his 27th victory of the season as the Condors trumped the Alaska Aces 4-1 in front of 5,758 fans at the Rabobank Arena on Saturday night. The victory propelled the Condors back into a tie for first place in the West Division.
The Aces had the energetic edge in the opening period, but neither team could get on the scoreboard. Alaska led in shots 14-11 with Yutaka Fukufuji in net for the Condors and Lance Mayes for the Aces. Just six minutes into the second frame, a deflected pass at center ended up taking a Condors bounce and launching rookie Connor James in alone. He connected for his 16th goal of the season and the only score of the game through 40 minutes.
Bakersfield blew the game wide open in the third period, scoring three times in a four-minute span to take a 4-0 lead. Kevin St. Jacques banked the puck off Mayes and into the net for the eventual game winner early in the third. James redirected his second goal of the night home on the power play, and Paul Rosebush's cannon at 8:19 gave him his 20th of the season. Chris Minard, for the second straight game, scored a late goal to spoil Fukufuji's shutout bid to make it 4-1.
The Condors five-game homestand continues with a game against Long Beach on Tuesday, March 22nd. That night is the annual Help for the Homeless canned food drive, sponsored by HOT 94.1 and the Grocery Outlet. Anyone bringing in two non- perishable food items will get a voucher good for a $1 terrace seat to the game. The Condors 27-hour Hockey-Thon, which includes two games against the Gwinnett Gladiators, takes place next weekend on Friday and Saturday. Log on to www.bakersfieldcondors.com for more information.
