Condors Take Down Ontario In A Shootout

Bakersfield, Calif. - For the first time this season, the Bakersfield Condors (9-6-0-0, 18pts) played in a shootout, and they did not disappoint, knocking off the Ontario Reign (7-8-0-1, 15pts) 4-3 in front of 4,862 fans at Rabobank Arena. G Timo Pielmeier stopped 25 shots, plus all three in the shootout to earn the win, while RW

Stephane Goulet, RW Dan Sexton and C MacGregor Sharp converted in the shootout to keep the Condors in first place in the Pacific Division.

The Condors struck first in the game when D Eric Regan scored his fourth of the season off a shot from the point with 9:38 remaining in the opening period. Goulet and LW Mathieu Aubin each picked up assists on the play. But Ontario scored the next two goals to make it a 2-1 game. F Michael Pelech scored just 17 seconds later before LW Peter Lenes tallied a goal with 3:48 to play in the period.

In the middle frame, the Condors took the lead. Aubin scored his first of the season at 3:50 of the second period, while on the power play, after chipping home his own rebound. Goulet and D Sasha Pokulok earned assists on the goal. The Condors made it a 3-2 game when C Adam Naglich scored his first of the season, while shorthanded with 6:54 left in the second period. RW Nick Kemp earned the lone assist, springing Naglich for a breakaway.

The third period saw Ontario tie the score at three on Tony Voce's power play goal at 6:53. After 60 minutes, the Condors out-shot the Reign 33-27, but the score was deadlocked at three.

In the overtime period, the Condors penalty kill went back to work, successfully killing off two 4-on-3 power plays to help send the game into the shootout. The Condors killed off 7 of 8 power plays in the game.

In the skills competition, it was all Condors. Pielmeier stopped all three shooters he faced, while Goulet, Sexton and Sharp each put the puck by G Curtis Darling for a 4-3 Condors win.

Up next:

Bakersfield continues their six-game homestand with three games against Alaska this weekend. Friday marks Trading Card Giveaway Night, sponsored by Bakersfield Californian. The first 3,000 fans in attendance receive a strip of six Condors trading cards. On Saturday, the Condors host Rivalry Night/Poster Giveaway, presented by Fox Sports Radio 970. All fans in attendance receive a poster, featuring some of your favorite Condors and their biggest rivals. The weekend concludes on Sunday at 5 p.m. when Bright House Networks presents Nickelodeon's Cosmo & Wanda from the Fairly OddParents. Bring your own skates for a Skate with the Team, following the game. Limited skate rentals are available for $5. Friday and Saturday's games begin at 7 p.m. Doors to all games open an hour before the puck drops.
