Condors skate to 3-1 victory in Vegas

LAS VEGAS - The Bakersfield Condors won the first game of a three-game set against the Las Vegas Wranglers, 3-1, before 6,327 fans at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night. Both teams donned prison-style jerseys as part of the Wranglers Rod Blagojevich Prison Uniform Night.
The Condors (14-23-6, 34pts) and Wranglers (18-18-4, 40pts) skated to a scoreless tie through the first 20 minutes, combining for 14 shots in the opening frame. Bakersfield's penalty kill saw considerable time on the ice, killing off four Las Vegas power plays in a penalty-laden first period.
After more than 35 minutes of scoreless hockey, the Condors lit the lamp twice in the span of 1:55 to take a 2-0 lead late in a dominant second period of play, in which Bakersfield out-shot Las Vegas, 21-3. C Brett Pilkington scored first, wristing home his own rebound at 15:37. LW Mark Derlago promptly followed suit when he found a loose puck in the slot and slipped it past Las Vegas G Kevin Lalande to put the Condors ahead by two through 40 minutes.
Just 3:36 into the third period, F Matt Pope redirected a shot past Lalande on the power play to extend the Condors lead to 3-0. The Wranglers got on the board at 15:28 in the third with a goal from C Tyler Mosienko, but Bakersfield hung on for the 3-1 win. G Dave McKee stopped 15 of 16 shots in the winning effort.
