WHEELING, WV - Ryan Cruthers, Mathieu Melanson, and Alex Parent each had three-point nights as the Mississippi Sea Wolves closed out their only road trip to the ECHL's North Division of the 2008-09 season with a dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind victory at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, W. Va.
Wheeling got out to a 1-0 lead early in the first period when Jordan Morrison pounded home the rebound of Erik Johnson's shot at 2:37 of the first period. Mathieu Melanson drew the Sea Wolves even on the power play with his 13th goal of the season, blasting a one-timer from the right circle past Nailers goalie Curtis Darling at 4:24. Bo Cheesman put Wheeling back on top when he fired a wrist shot from the left wing past Ryan Munce at 9:53 of the first frame. Elgin Reid's power-play blast from through traffic from the point gave the Nailers a 3-1 lead at 17:56.
Mississippi battled back in the second period, drawing within one when Alex Parent buried Ryan Cruthers' centering pass for his 12th goal of the season at 18:14 of the second stanza.
Melanson's second goal of the game drew the Sea Wolves even with the Nailers at three-apiece when he took a pass from parent and rifled a shot past Darling just 1:42 into the third. Ryan Cruthers' 20th goal of the season came at 6:24 of the third period, giving Mississippi their first and only lead of the game, when he found a loose puck lying in the crease and poked it past Darling.
Ryan Munce made 25 saves to earn the win, and the Sea Wolves power play was 1-for-3.
