Bakersfield Condors News Release
CONDORSTOWN, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors (@Condors) have announced that the team has invited the National Football League's Replacement Referees from the recent Monday Night Football game between Green Bay and Seattle to officiate the team's upcoming annual Open House Black/White intrasquad scrimmage on Tues. Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) inside Rabobank Arena.
The game will feature the Condors, divided into two teams, pitted against one another. In the first edition of the game last season, the White Team took out the Black Team in a spirited, tight contest.
"We feel sorry for them and what they have gone through recently," said Condors Team President Matthew Riley. "As many know, there is no instant replay for this game and we probably won't even film it so there will be no pressure on them. It's not their fault. They've been put in a tough spot and we'd like to put them in a no-lose situation."
The outcome is already set and the Condors will win regardless of the calls the replacement refs make on the ice. Fans of Condorstown, known for treating referees very warmly, will cheer for every call made in the game since it will favor the Condors (we think?).
For those wondering, the replacement refs are strong enough skaters to be in the correct position to make the wrong call. They don't need to know the rules of hockey, their calls don't matter, and the Condors will win.
Admission to the game and the post-game team meet and greet is free with the donation of two canned food items. All donations will be given to the CAPK Food Bank. The Condors have collected more than 20,000 canned food items in the Open House's history.
